Dutch Lions FC start a partnership with Piqua, Troy and Sydney
High School soccer. DDL FC will play an Exhibition
Game against the All Star Team at July 13th in Piqua
The Dayton Dutch Lions FC is starting a partnership with Miami County High School Alumni from Piqua and Troy and Sidney Alumni in Shelby County, Sidney to promote (professional) soccer in the Northern Dayton area. One of the main results of the partnership is an annual exhibition game against a combination team of former Piqua, Troy and Sydney soccer stars. The first one will be Tuesday July 13 at Wertz Stadium at 07.00pm.
The Dutch Lions FC will bring their whole professional team and will also have a pre game meal with the All Star team and the High School Board members. Their will also be several entertaining game activities.
Owner Mike Mossel is delighted with the game: “So far we have had great feedback from the Southern part of Dayton concerning our games and our players. Of course this has to do with the fact that we play our home games in Bellbrook. However, we noticed a lot of people in the Northern part are not that familiar with us yet. So when Wil Benson from Piqua Indians Soccer Association asked me if I was interested in getting soccer people from the Piqua region more aware and involved, I immediately said yes."
"We met a couple of times and came up with the idea of an annual game between the Dayton Dutch Lions FC and former soccer stars(Alumni) from the three local High Schools Piqua, Troy and Sidney. It is great for their (former) players to see each other again and bring all their families and friends to a great game of soccer, we have an opportunity to show that we have a great soccer product right here in Dayton. Eventually we are all in this to grow the game of soccer in Dayton.”
Wil Benson, PISA President, had the following to say on the game: “I want to promote soccer as much as possible, and I think this is a great family event for our community and Miami County. This is an opportunity to see soccer at a higher level and make a long time relationship with the Dayton Dutch Soccer Family. We want to build support for soccer in general and in the long run, we hope people will go and support the Dayton Dutch Team.”
